![]() But, if the DualShock controller was indeed released in NA only in May 1998, then it means that the gray DS retail box might have also contained, instead, the SCPH-9xxx models, and might even have never included a single 55xx model ever. ![]() that, or the release date of the NA DualShock controller itself is up the wazoo on the Internet and it was something else entirely. Which would mean that in NA that gray DualShock retail box shouldn't have started to appear until at least May or June 1998. However, the DualShock controller itself, from what I've seen on Google, seems to have been released in Japan in late 1997, and only was released in NA quite later, in May 1998. From the little amount of info I found about the 70xx models, it looks like that one arrived on the NA market around mid 1997 (just a bit before, or during summer 1997) The white & red retail box (from what I can recall) was eventually 'replaced' by the arrival of the DualShock variation (not sure if retailers kept on selling both versions continuously for years past the 1997/98 mark) 5501 was commonly included in the original(?) red & white retail box (with the zoomed-in picture of the system itself on the front) 5501 was released around late 1996, but continued on to 1997 (if not beyond) The only things I think I get right is this (again, this is for North Amercia): I'd like to know, if anyone knows if the SCPH-5501 model was included in the gray DualShock retail box releases in 1997? Or, if ALL the systems in that gray DS box were exclusively the SCPH-70xx or 75xx models? (or maybe it was a mix?)
